I scan the room. It doesn't take me long to find her.

Today, she's wearing a slim, tailored black pantsuit with those Prada "smoking" shoes in metallic silver, her disheveled hair in place. It's easy to spot her in a sea of black.

I'm surprised, though, that someone with such zeal is so collected.

"It's bold, isn't it?" She's admiring the painting behind me. "It's also a bit naïve. I fancy that." I quickly remember that it was her, in fact, who spotted the young student artist during Art Basel, off-the-beaten-path. Here we are at his opening reception.

Her voice is sophisticated, but her laugh is filled with mischief. Several people offer their greetings. (I'm secretly enjoying the attention.)

The public can't get enough.

To call her a trend hunter would be excessive - it's a natural instinct. "I'm drawn to truth and passion," she explains. "Truth is enigmatic at best, and passion is simply beauty."

At the bar, she orders a dirty martini. The conversation pours as freely as the gin does. Her voice is sophisticated, but her laugh is filled with mischief. Several people offer their greetings. (I'm secretly enjoying the attention.)

She lives by one mantra: "Be unexpected."

She opens her black leather tote, and pulls out a book. "I picked this up today," she says nonchalantly, beaming, while tracing her fingers on the cover of A Perfectly Kept House Is The Sign of a Misspent Life. She reaches for her martini, and takes another sip. She professes that she has an extensive collection - it started as a hobby while traveling. She has one book from every city she's visited.

Big gulp. She finishes her martini, bites off the olive. I notice her watch, a Jaeger LeCoultre: black leather strap and white face with gold detailing. She notices my glance. "Time is on my side, I guess," she says with a grin.

A voice comes out of nowhere: "frank! There's someone you absolutely must meet!" She smiles.

Just like that, she leaves a trail of velvet sensuality, fused with intellect, cashmere and black orchids.

Meet frank by The Genteel on January 14th.
